When Richard saw the original starter image of the cardinal, he said that all the cardinals in Texas had a long tail and wondered what species this one was. He does have a pitiful tail to begin with - he may be molting, or just starting to grow a tail. He certainly has that chubby, fluffy body of a baby. Well, I couldn’t let him be tails — I have a red hat with feathers, so I dug that out of the closet and took pictures of just the feathers. To make my life easier, I put white paper strips under the feather so they’d be photographed on white instead of red. It’s much easier to mask out the background that way ;- )
With that kind of extravagant tail, he just had to be out-of-the-ordinary. I imagined him as a punk rocker with all sorts of piercings and tattoos; if you look closely you can see a tattoo on his chest, along with the skull and beak piercings. Since he just started with the band, they make him play the tambourine, instead of letting him play drums as he had dreamed.
The sky is a potion of Dramatic Sky 03 from OnOne. The original cardinal image came from Morgue File. The tambourine and microphone are from Pixel Squid. The tattoo is from PngImg, and the imagination is all mine. I live it when a story come together!
